A new 12-inch ARPA radar has joined the successful Racal-Decca BridgeMaster range to offer important benefits to smaller vessels. The new model offers all of the benefits of the 340, its 16-inch big brother. These include trial manoeuvre, autotrack and geographies facilities which are expected to make it particularly attractive for use aboard vessels such as high speed ferries and fast patrol boats where bridge space may be limited. Although the new BridgeMaster 250 ARPA has a smaller screen than required by the IMO for formal classification as an Automatic Radar Plotting Aid, it has received type approval from the UK department of transport. The new 250 ARPA incorporates all of nearly thirty enhancements which have been made to the other radars in the BridgeMaster range. These include an X-band antenna with a 40 rev/min rotation capability to meet the needs of high speed craft.
