Ateliers et Chantiers du Havre (ACH) recently announced the delivery of the ro-ro passenger vessel 'Paglia Orba' (newbuilding A.C.H. 290), to her owner Societe Nationale Maritime Corse-Mediterranee (S.N.C.M.). The vessel has an overall length of 165.80 m and a width of 29 m, a 2,330 metre roll lane length, and can accommodate 200 passengers. The vessel will mainly sail between Marseilles and Bastia (Corsica). The 'Paglia Orba' is fully automated and conforms to latest safety rules. The ferry is fitted with an A.C.H. 2-fin anti-rolling stabilizer, the largest ever built in the world. The most remarkable features of the vessel are: her extremely wide-ranging commercial capability, thanks to a record roll lane length (2,330 m) and very high overhead clearance for vehicles, particularly at access doors; the remarkable design of the traffic lanes, enabling high-speed loading and unloading; the particularly impressive length of the internal access ramp for the upper garage deck: the complete ramp system covers more than 40% of the vessel's overall length, and can be inclined in both directions and raised under load.
