ULSTEIN'S NEW TYPE 480 GEARBOX

By incorporating an optional planetary first stage, Ulstein's new type 480 gearbox offers shipowners a choice of reduction ratios from about 2.5:1 right down to 12:1. This solution has both technical and commercial advantages over alternative ways of achieving high reduction ratios, such as parallel shaft two-stage reduction gears or single-stage gears with small pinions.
