CORAL CARBONIC

October 1999 saw the official naming ceremony of the 'Coral Carbonic' at the premises of Frisian Shipyard Welgelegen in Harlingen, the Netherlands. The 'Coral Carbonic' is world's very first vessel that has specifically been designed and built for the carriage of liquefied "greenhouse gas" CO_2. The nearly 80 m long vessel has a maximum transport capacity of 1250 m~3 of liquefied gas. The liquefied gas tanker will be deployed for the transport of CO_2 to production sites where CO_2 is usefully recycled, for instance, in the beverage industry and other industries. Due to this efficiently recycling it is prevented that CO_2 - normally a residual waste product in the chemical industry and in power plants - is freely released into the atmosphere and as such is one of the main causes of the greenhouse effect danger.
