King County Housing Authority Adopts Cost-Savings Measures That Include Not Reissuing Vouchers

The King County, Wash., Housing Authority (KCHA) board of commissioners approved cost-saving measures for its Section 8 voucher program that include not reissuing vouchers upon turnover, lowering payment standards, freezing rent increases to landlords, and tightening occupancy standards. The KCHA board voted not to reissue any new vouchers for the foreseeable future for a program that currently serves more than 8,100 families. More than 5,100 families are currently on the waiting list.
