Chicago Workforce Housing Partnership Works With Business Leaders, Mayors in 10 Suburbs

Charter One and the Metropolitan Regional Council (MPC) have started an initiative with 10 municipal governments in the Chicago metropolitan area to work with local businesses that want to help their employees cut down on commuting by finding affordable housing in the communities where they work. The two groups have sponsored forums with mayors and business leaders to explore how they can tap financial resources and adopt market-based strategies to provide more housing options to workers in what have become high-cost housing markets. Also participating is the Housing Opportunity Development Corporation, a nonprofit that helps with homeownership counseling and in designing employer-assisted housing programs.
