EDA Is Soliciting Proposals for Supplemental Disaster Relief Funds

The Economic Development Administration (EDA) has announced general policies and application procedures for $100 million in supplemental fiscal 2008 funds to address the impact of recent Midwest storms and flooding and other natural disasters. A notice requesting proposals was published in the August: 14 Federal Register. Proposals will be accepted on a continuing basis, and applications will be invited and processed as received. EDA generally takes up to two months to reach a final decision after a complete application meeting all requirements is received. The funds will be provided through EDA's economic adjustment assistance program for regions experiencing severe economic distress as a result of disasters declared from January 1 through June 30, 2008. Economic adjustment: assistance grants can be used for a wide range of technical, planning, and infrastructure assistance. EDA is allocating the funds to its six regional offices as follows: Atlanta, $8.8 million; Austin, $13.8 million; Chicago, $21.4 million; Denver, $52.6 million; Philadelphia, $2.3 million; and Seattle, $1.0 million.
