Mayors Adopt Resolutions Calling for More Funds for Federal Programs, Action to Address Foreclosure Crisis

The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) called for more federal funding for housing and development programs, including a big increase in the community development block grant (CDBG) program, in resolutions adopted at its recent annual meeting in Miami. "In these hard economic times, CDBG can help state and local governments to assist the community development needs of some of the nation's most vulnerable communities and citizens," one of the resolution says. It recommends an increase in formula funding to at least $4.1 billion in fiscal 2009, with a doubling of funding to at least $8 billion over the next several years.
