Public-private investment funds (PPIF) established under the Treasury Department's public-private investment program (PPIP) held about $2,971 billion in non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) and $440 million in commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) as of December 31, according to Treasury's first quarterly program update.rnUnder the program, Treasury matches private equity invested in a fund and also provides debt capital equal to the total equity investments. As of December 31, the PPIFs completed initial and subsequent closings on $6,194 billion in private equity, with Treasury putting up $6,194 billion in equity and $12,387 billion in debt.
