Pennsylvania Extends Development Approvals for Stalled Projects

Gov. Edward G. Rendell (D) has signed into law a bill (S.B. 2041; PL. 343, No. 176) that extends development approvals, permits, and decisions for projects which have stalled because of the economic downturn.rnThe legislation, which was signed on July 6, extends to July 2, 2013, the effective dates of governmental approvals that were scheduled to expire after December 31, 2008. The extensions are automatic except in Philadelphia, where any extension is effective 20 days after a developer notifies the responsible city agency and pays a fee equal to 50 percent of the original application fee, but not more than $5,000.
