DOE Rejects Industry Push to Structure Multifamily Weatherization Funds as Loans Instead of Grants

The Department of Energy (DOE) has rejected housing industry calls to allow multifamily weatherization funds to be structured as loans as a way to boost their use by multifamily developments needing energy efficiency improvements.rnCurrently, DOE rules require the funds to be structured as grants. Robert C. Adams, supervisor of the DOE weatherization and intergovernmental program, told a recent National Housing & Rehabilitation Association meeting in Washington that a statutory change will be needed to allow the funds to be provided as loans.
