Seattle Housing Authority Opens Energy-Efficient HOPE VI Project

The Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) has opened Lake City Court, an 86-unit apartment building in north Se- attle with many green features, including 4,500 square feet of photovoltaic panels which will generate about 10 percent of the building's annual energy needs. The rooftop panels include a hot water system that will provide up to half of the building's hot water demand. The building is expected to use 30 percent less energy for space heating than typical new construction under the state energy code. Lake City Court also has high-efficiency water conservation fixtures, on-demand hot water, hot-water radiant heating, and individual metering for all utilities.
