HUD Drafting Bill for Demonstration Program to Convert Public, Assisted Housing to Project-Based Assistance

HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing Sandra Henriquez said the department will soon deliver draft legislation to Congress to authorize a $200 million transforming rental (TRA) demonstration program for 2012 that would begin the conversion of up to 180,000 public housing and older assisted units to Section 8 project-based contracts. Henriquez outlined plans for the TRA legislation at the annual meeting of the National Leased Housing Association (NLHA) in Washington, where she also discussed the current shortfall in voucher administrative fees.
