Housing Assistance Council Examines Rural Housing Complaints

The Housing Assistance Council (HAC) found that of 91,030 fair housing complaints filed with HUD and fair housing assistance program (FHAP) agencies from fiscal 1998 to 2008, 12,261, or 13 percent, were filed for alleged housing discrimination in rural communities. The information, which was taken from HUD's Title VIII Automated Paperless Office Tracking System (TEAPOTS) data base, showed that the proportion of rural fair housing complaints remained fairly constant each year, varying from 11 to 13 percent of the total.
