The time has long passed when efficient service with a smile was a rare occurrence at Budapest hotels. In fact, Hungary's hotels are known for their willingness to please. This is not to say, however, that there is not room for improvement, particularly in light of the annual growth in the number of English-speaking tourists visiting the Pearl of the Danube. However, teaching waiters, housekeepers, front-desk staff and management English and Western-style protocol can be a monumental task, particularly if they've had little or no exposure to it. And such instruction, without motivation, can be blatantly boring.
