Worldwide High design has turned hotels into virtual showrooms. "Hotels have gone from 'I would never have that in my home' to just the opposite," says Stephen Werther, founder of Platform, the New-York based company that handles the retail program for W Hotels. "How great is it that guests get to try everything out—and then get to buy it?" The concept began with hotels selling their beds. Today that idea has expanded to include everything from vanity mirrors to wall sconces and lobby couches to decorative accessories. It's a burgeoning segment of hotels' retail business that goes way beyond souvenir gift shops.
