Despite the sci-fi aesthetic, Richard Shemtov's OSS 96 and OSS 240 seating for Dune takes a cue from Victorian tete-a-tete sofas. The islands feature deep arms and backs, perfect for capturing a Wi-Fi signal or setting down shopping bags. Contrasting colors, textures, and patterns highlight the quirky forms, though upholstery in a single fabric is an option, too. Both the round version, 8 feet across, and the ovoid one, 24 feet long, have frames of formaldehyde-free MDF, padding of recyclable polyester foam, and legs of recyclable aluminum.
