Since launching an event-based recruiting program three years ago, Geneva-based Kempinski Hotels this past March held its third Kempinski Career Day in Munich and second in China. At the events, Kempinski's management board members, hotel general managers and corporate experts directly conduct interviews with interested applicants instead of using the traditional human resources department-centered approach. "We believe in placing decisions firmly in the hands of the managers who will actually need to work with and integrate new members of staff," says Michel Gehrig, vice president talent development at Kempinski Hotels. "Our decentralized approach to people management is reflected in our decision to hold career days in these different regions."
