摘要

After more than two years of development, a Department of Homeland Security project to lower the false alarm rate of commercially available bioaerosol detectors will undergo real-world testing in February. The Enhanced Bioaerosol Detection System (EBADS) program, a multi-lab effort between Sandia, Lawrence Livermore, Oak Ridge and Pacific Northwest national laboratories, is aimed toward enhancing the performance of bioaerosol technologies dependant on laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), which generally offer a diagnosis within one to two minutes as opposed to other systems which may take 15 minutes or more. Existing sensors, though, fail to discriminate properly between biological and nonbiological particles, leading to increased false alarm rates.
