The world's first Tex Genius competition, to identify the next great home textiles product based on innovation, technology and design, is down to the finals. The Tex Genius contest is sponsored by Standard Fiber, which will award a $10,000 grand prize. H(&)TT is hosting the competition and will announce the winners in its Sept. 8 pre-market issue with the grand prize winner on display at H(&)TT's Big Market Kickoff Party on Sunday, Sept. 14. About two dozen entries were submitted and from those, a panel of judges that included representatives from Standard Fiber, Home (&) Textiles Today and North Carolina State University picked five finalists. Independent home textiles designer Robin Wilson was involved in the judging as were Standard Fiber executives Sandy Gray and Russ Holbrook. Andre J. West, an assistant professor with more than 30 years in the textile industry, represented the school's prestigious College of Textiles.
