The company has a strong image, which is both an asset and a challenge and it is now poised to grow its business beyond its familiar country origins. Jane Fitzpatrick, half of the revered couple who founded the mail-order business in 1956, passed away this past November. (Her husband Jack passed in 2011). Their children remain the largest shareholders in the private business. Now, ceo Phil McAvoy is faced with keeping the strong traditions of the Stockbridge, Mass.-based company intact, while taking it in new directions.
