It began with a single fleece blanket construction in 1993. Twenty-five years later, Berkshire Blanket & Home Co. still does a big business in blankets, but has expanded its range. "We take credit for bringing fleece to the bedroom," said Emily Pfeiffer, VP of marketing & digital. "We introduced Serasoft, a reinvented plush. It is now the basic standard for polyester plush. It was our got-off-the-ground moment." The company is located in a former textile mill in Ware, Mass., roughly 90 minutes west of Boston. The historic stone and wood structure has metal shavings embedded in the floor, an echo of the days decades ago when metal carts rolled between the machinery. "You feel the gravitas of it, the sense of history behind what we do," said Pfeiffer.
