The most highly anticipated seminars during this fall's ALA Conference were the ones that covered Internet marketing and social media. In fact, several retailers told me they came to the convention this year expressly because the topic would be discussed in-depth. It also helped that the ALA tapped John Arnold - author of the 800-page Web Marketing All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies plus the three individual Web, Mobile, and E-Mail Marketing for Dummies books - to conduct multiple sessions. Furthermore, the ALA arranged with Arnold to provide free 15-minute one-on-one consultations each day. This gave manufacturers, retailers, and reps the opportunity to have Arnold's advice on their unique concerns and challenges.
