With the arrival of the multimedia era, the need to be able to easily view and edit of video images on video tape and video servers is increasing. The concept behind Hitachi's intelligent video editing and management systems is the simple handling of media on a PC based on intelligent image analysis technology. The first such system, a rough video editing system, supports functions such as easy selection, sequencing, and triming of scenes. These functions are realized by an automatic detection method for finding cutting points where video data changes. The system can greatly increase the ease and efficiency of rough editing operations, the most troublesome of image editing operations.
