The Cold War was a tough time for somenscientists. Most stayed in the no-man's-landnof political neutrality. Others bunkeredndown with the Left. A few went further andnjoined, openly, the Communist Party. Thisnprovided cold-war warriors with abundantnand usually lethal ammunition. This articlenexamines the position of two Australiannscientists whose professional lives werenblighted or thwarted due to that explosivenmixture of cold-war politics and CommunistnParty membership.
