As developments on our highways continue there is an inevitable impact on the ecology and biodiversity of the roadsides Habitats are lost wildlife is dispersed and the biodiversity changes. Any human induced factor which causes a change in an ecosystem is a 'driver' and three major direct drivers - which are likely to occur during highways development and maintenance - include land use reversion,invasive species and pollution. However,with good management and advanced planning,the roadside ecosystem can be sustainably managed to allow habitats and the natural biodiversity to regenerate.
