After months of dodging the issue, politicians of every persuasion have now become cuts converts as they fight to implement the most effective way of bringing the UK's mammoth public debt back under control. The change in the political mood makes the launch of our Highways: Save our Spending campaign last month even timelier. The industry will have to fight hard to protect its share of a diminishing budget as the public spending axe swings across all departments. We must highlight how the work we do not only improves the everyday lives of everyone in this country, but also how deaths are prevented on a daily basis.
