Building the network from the ground up

Gordon Mackay became chair of SCOTS in May of this year and comes in at a time of great change and progress in Scotland's local government highways sector. The post is usually held for two years, by which time the local landscape could have changed significantly. For a start, serious consideration is being given to the delivery structure and a potential move to a more regional basis. One of the main priorities for SCOTS is to ensure its voice is heard in the ongoing consultation on the National Transport Strategy, which will set out an updated 20-year vision for the devolved nation. Among other issues the review of the strategy will consider such reorganisation.
