Last year, I wrote a series of articles about e-commerce and the printing industry for High Volume Printing. At that time, a large number of new dotcom companies were aggressively marketing their online e-commerce solutions to printing companies and print buyers. The climate in the industry was one of fear, uncertainty and doubt — Were these companies going to extract a "tax" on the already margin-strapped printing business, or would they steal customers and eliminate the important service and relationship elements that print providers had worked so hard to build through the years?
