Launch of the National Library for Health Web site

November 17th 2004 saw the launchnof the National Library for HealthnWeb site . ThenNational Library for Health (NLH) is annew NHS-wide initiative working tonintegrate physical and electronicnresources into a networked libraryncombining all the high qualitynresources and skills of NHS libraries tonsupport patient care, continuingnprofessional development, e-learningnand research across the NHS. The NLHnfollows on from the successes of thenNational electronic Library for Healthn(NeLH) and the National Core ContentnGroup as the next natural step in thendevelopment of NHS library services.nThe NLH is planned as a phasedndevelopment, which will bringnsignificant change to the organisationnof library services. For the NeLH it willnmark the end of a phase of developingndigital services separately fromntraditional library services. Forntraditional library services, it will meanna transformation towards new ways ofnworking, including greater use ofnNHS-wide services, equitable access fornall NHS staff, a transition towardsngreater use of digital services, and thendevelopment of a shared approach tonmarketing. The vision is that the NLHnwill be network-based, rather than ancentralised service, and that librarynstaff will continue to have a central rolenin the development and delivery ofnknowledge and information services.
