Audiophiles thrive on controversy. That's just the way we are - always have been, always will be as long as there are two or more high-end enthusiasts left alive. Sometimes serious, often infantile, myriad controversies have fuelled hi-fi magazine letter pages, blog sites and forums: mono vs stereo vs surround, valves vs transistors, analogue vs digital, bi-wiring, spikes horns, single-ended triodes, Peter Belt, polarity inversion and dozens more. But nothing embroiled the British audio community of the 1970s-1990s in such an all-embracing, long-running dispute with the force of the Linn Sondek LP12 turntable.
