I couldn't believe my eyes when I read in your feature about vinyl mastering at AIR Studios [HFN, Nov '09] that often LPs are cut using a CD as a 'master'. What on earth's the point? This is sacrilege, isn't it? Or was it a mistake in your article?rnIf it's indeed true, then doesn't this prove that vinyl die-hards - who still insist that LPs sound better than digital - are fooling themselves a lot of the time? Moreover, when buying LPs, how do we differentiate between 'real' audiophile-quality analogue LPs and those that are simply vinyl cuts of 'dreadful' compact discs?
