What a year! While some companies announced millions of dollars in losses, others were forced to terminate the manufacture of brilliant designs - like Pioneer, with its Kuro TVs [see p106]. At the other end of the spectrum, some cottage industries -notably those making hand-built audio components and accessories - were forced into two or three-day weeks, re-mortgaging if and when the banks would allow it.
