KUDOS AUDIO CARDEA C20 (£2950)

We matched the claimed 88dB sensitivity for the Cardea C20 on a simple mean calculation from the FFT response data but not with the more representative pink noise and music-shaped pink noise measurements, both of which pegged its sensitivity a little lower at 86.6dB. The reason for the disparity is clear from the on-axis frequency response traces [see graph 1, below] where the C20 has a gradually but inexorably rising output towards high frequencies, to the tune of +6dB up at 20kHz (re. 200Hz). This suggests that the C20 will deliver a more neutral tonal balance when auditioned a little off-axis, for example by not toeing a stereo pair in fully towards the listening position.
