Into the Blu-ray yonder

Times are tough for all of us, so even we who deal with high-end products have to look for bargains out in the real world. (While many of you would like to think that hi-fi journalists live in a world of freebies, some of us do actually buy stuff.) And even though I worship movies, I've been putting off a Blu-ray purchase because I'm truly sick and tired of being an early adopter. Been there, done that, got the dead format.rnEvery time I think Blu-ray has settled down - and the death of HD DVD was certainly a rally cry to buy into its victor - up comes word of a new HDMI standard or a new multichannel codex. Worse, I wanted a machine that would play Regions 1 and 2 (or A and B), and I was told again and again that Blu-ray machines would not be easy to hack.
