As with so many audio matters, there are pros and cons involved in separating a preamplifier/controller from rnits partnering power amp. While it's often assumed that a pre/power combo is 'more serious' than an integrated amp, we mustn't ignore the hazardous interfacing issues involved. Not only can the audio performance of the amplifier system be influenced by the sonic nature of the cables connecting them, but just the very fact that there are two plugs and sockets (per channel) in the signal path disadvantages the purity of the audio signal.
