Record producer Joe Meek was already a legend before he shot his nagging North London landlady, Road, and turned the gun on himself in 1967. He had made history in 1962 when he recorded The Tornados playing his chart-topping 'Telstar' - with Dr Who electronic music effects a year ahead of Dr Who.rnMeek refused to record the Beatles, David Bowie and Rod Stewart and was unenthusiastic about Tom Jones. He slammed down the phone on Phil Spector, after accusing him of trying to steal his secret recording techniques.
