If you always suspected that the costlier the MC, the lower its output then Ortofon's latest and distinctly skeletal flagship will not disabuse you of this notion. At a standard 5cm/sec and loaded into 100ohm, the MC A90 affords just 0.31 mV with a left/right channel balance error of 0.3dB. Unequalised distortion shows 2nd, 3rd and a hint of 4th order harmonics (a mix of alignment and generator distortions) adding up to a moderate 3.8% with a not inconsiderable 23mN downforce.
