Tall, slim floorstanders are one of today's most popular forms of loudspeaker, and it's easy to understand why.rnAs some in this group test demonstrate more forcefully than others, they can be considerably more elegant than standmounts and also offer the considerable benefit that they don't squander space, as all their footprint is converted into internal cabinet volume that enhances sensitivity or bass extension, or a mix of both.rnThis group of six varied floorstanders encompasses a price range of about 2:1, from the keenly priced B&W CM9 at £ 1760 to the Canadian PSB tower at £3500. Prices of imported models are currently a moving target: when we started our tests the PSB was priced £3000, and had we looked at Pioneer's S-81 at the beginning of the year it too would have been £500 cheaper. Some are quite conservative in their appearance, like the Dynaudio and Spendor; others are more daring like the tall, curvaceous Pioneer and the slender, backwards-titled Audio Physic.
