The great musicians of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk big band are used to working with jazz stars, but this was special. Ibrahim seems to have just walked naturally into the settings provided by arranger Steve Cray, who sadly passed away not long after conducting these sessions. First stealing in quietly behind him on the lyrical 'Song For Sathima', the WDR band rocks joyfully through 'Mandela' without his help.
