Here you get far more than just the two old Mole Jazz albums plus a few alternate takes, as only eight of the 25 tracks here appeared on Blues For The Fisherman or True Blues. The 17 unissued tracks range from the funky soul blues 'Red Car' to a long and absorbing 'I'll Remember April', and most are so good that it seems amazing they could remain unheard for 30 years. The tapes were provided by Laurie Pepper, still on a mission to get all of her late husband's non-studio recordings out to the public. Partly thanks to her, there are currently plenty of live Pepper recordings to choose from. But this Pure Pleasure box is exceptional, musically and sonically.
