DILEMMA ON DECK...

I wonder if you can help? My system comprises a 1985 Linn Sondek LP12 with Basik plus power supply and Linn K9 cartridge, a NAD 3120 integrated amplifier from 1986, a Boss BR900CD digital recorder/mixer (I play the drums, which feed into this), a pair of M-Audio Studiophile BX-8A monitors, and a Marantz SA7001 CD player. I have a dilemma. I can either pay ￡950 to get Linn's Majik PSU fitted to the LP12 (because there is a funny smell coming from the deck), a service (reset), a new motor, a new Linn Adikt cartridge, a 45rpm adaptor, and a Quadraspire wall shelf. Alternatively I could buy a new Rega Planar 3 to use with the Linn cartridge, an external PSU and a Rega wall-mounted shelf, which will cost ￡750 in total.
