How to save and play hi-res files

In the last few months I have moved from CD to computer audio, but I expect like many of your readers, I found the process more than a little confusing. Still, I now have a headless Mac Mini on which is held my entire CD collection. The CDs were ripped using XLF software into iTunes, which is used as a library only, managed using Amarra software to play back.
