This is the first product from the new and 're-imagined' Sansui brand that we've tested and, despite being an early sample, our SAP-201 amplifier met its 2×40W/8ohm specification - just - but with plenty of dynamic headroom to accommodate clean (<1% THD) peaks of 63W, 105W, 150W and 130W into 8,4, 2 and 1 ohm loads [see Graph, below]. So this is no shrinking violet. Response is good to within ±0.2dB from 20Hz-20kHz and the A-wtd S/N adequate at 80dB (re. OdBW). Distortion, through bass and midrange, remains admirably consistent at "0.025% over 90% of its dynamic range but it does increase very markedly indeed at high frequencies - from 0.2% at 5kHz to a heady 10% at 20kHz (10W/8ohm).
