While the specification for Dolby's losslessly-packed TrueHD multichannel audio already accommodates 24-bit/192kHz streams, many studios are still mastering at just 48kHz. All BD players incorporate upsampling DACs but Dolby is now offering producers of Blu-ray discs the chance to premaster their TrueHD surround sound at an upsampled 96kHz using a proprietary apodising filter, promising a smoother but no less detailed sound.
