Morrison's lengthy association with Warner Bros is taken for granted, but his arrival at the label in 1968 followed a turbulent period in his personal and professional life. After the disintegration of Them, Morrison's tough-sounding R'n'B outfit. Van was persuaded by his former producer Bert Berns - composer of 'Here Comes The Night' - to record solo for his new label, Bang Records. During a two-day session at New York's A&R Studios on the 28th and 29th of March 1967, eight songs were cut, with the understanding that they would be released as four singles. However, without consulting Morrison, Berns released the results as an album, Blowin' Your Mind!, which became Van's first solo long-player. The artist was less than pleased with the results, stating: 'I wasn't really happy with it. [Berns] picked the bands and tunes. I had a different concept of it.'
