Morrison began writing the songs for Moondance about ten months after the release of Astral Weeks, and recording sessions began during the summer of 1969 at the A&R Studios in New York.rnWith the musical arrangements only in his head, he entered the recording studio with just the basic song structures in place, leaving his newly-recruited band some freedom to add the final flourishes.rnWith the Belfast Cowboy on vocals, guitar, rhythm guitar, tambourine and harmonica, creative innovation was forthcoming from sax player Jack Schroer, flautist Collin Tilton, and Jef Labes, the album's organ and piano maestro.
