Ten years ago the idea that a high-quality loudspeaker would use a deliberately resonant diaphragm, and that this behaviour would free it from 'beaming' effects - where the acoustic output of a conventional speaker becomes constrained to a progressively narrower angle as frequency rises - seemed altogether ludicrous. Yet this is precisely how the Balanced Mode Radiator, BMR for short, operates.
