Amp sounds better run hot

Recently I upgraded from my trusty old Onkyo 605AV receiver to an Onkyo TX-NR809. While movies sounded a lot more impressive and went much louder with absolutely no strain, I was a bit underwhelmed by the 809's performance with music compared to that of the 605. It was nothing I could put my finger on, just that music was less involving. Then came a hot day in Sydney where I live and the ambient temperature climbed to 32°C. The 809 was running incredibly hot and the sound was now simply wonderful! Once the weather changed and became cooler the Onkyo was back to its usual self.
