Sound quality is not the main concern here, though this was originally on Mercury. But a 'Living Presence' entry this is not: the Blues Magoos were a Nuggets gene pool group who enhanced that legendary anthology with a killer take of John D Loudermilk's 'Tobacco Road', clearly inspired by the Nashville Teens' 1964 epic. The LP title is misleading, because this is more blues-y proto-punk than whirling sitars and paisley visions. If the other covers- like James Brown's 'I'll Co Crazy' - don't impress you with the band's rock cred, then the opening track (their only hit) is positively emblematic.
